This non-profit organization aims to support screenwriters through awards, competitions, conferences, etc.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - www.oscars.org
This site has information about the Academy, including past winners. It also has a pretigious screenwriting competition, the Nicholl Fellowship. Under this section you’ll find one of the best guides to screenplay format around – and no you don’t need to buy fancy software or waste time learning how to use it!

International Movie Database – www.imdb.com
“Earth’s Biggest Movie Database.” What more do you need to know? This site has it.

Theory of Tragedy from POETICS – www.cnr.edu/home/bmcmanus/poetics.html
There is no substitute for reading Aristotle, but if you must cheat, this is website gives a good summary of his big ideas. They are timeless.

Writer’s Guild of America – www.wga.org
This is THE screenwriter’s union. Their website offers a tab for “writer’s resources” where you can investigate agents, and also a tab for “writing tools” where you can confuse yourself even further with more places to get help!
